This week, we sat down with Frisco the Sex Therapist to talk about physical health and sexuality. We covered the sexiness of sweat and exertion, as well as athletic kinks in general. We also talked about what it’s like to be a kinky sex therapist, such as what it means to be a kink-aware therapist, what to look for in a therapist, and how being a sex therapist intersects with Frisco’s personal kink life.

Introduction to Athletic Kinks

Of course, we started off by asking about her Radioactive Spider Bite into Kink, which began with Clan of the Cave Bear, specifically when Ayla is taken advantage of in front of a group of strangers. She now identifies as primarily primal, which makes sense with her kinky origins.

Because Frisco has a background in athleticism, Dick talks about how he never found sports particularly hot until he started following and talking to a golfer on Instagram. He discovered that he liked watching this person golf, and is beginning to get into sports fetishism. Frisco talks about how many kinks are rooted in our bodies, therefore it makes sense to be attracted to athleticism.

Frisco’s Athletic Kinks

Frisco is a marathoner who talks about all of the kinky aspects of the sport. For example, within 26.2 miles, it’s possible to piss herself and/or vomit. Afterward, her entire body is depleted and in pain, soaked in sweat, and helpless. When she showers, the hot water hits her body in places that have chaffed over the course of her run, which adds even more pain to the mix. Dick talks about some of the (fantastical) athletic endurance porn he owns where people are forced to run on a treadmill for extended periods of time until their bodies start breaking down. We also discuss the kinky aspects of how people often throw up while weight lifting or running.

Frisco then moves into the difference between people who have a fetish for the athletic aesthetic, versus those who have a fetish for endurance or stressful situations. There are different outfits people fetishize, such as workout gear or jazzercise costumes, which is often distinct from fetishizing those with a muscular build. Aside from that, there are people who fetishize the sensations and experiences included in exercising, like exhaustion, and soreness.

Being a Kinky Sex Therapist

Friso talks about how trauma can lead to sexual dysfunction, and can keep you from having the sex life you want. Additionally people often treat sexual dysfunction as a joke. As a kink-positive sex therapist, and how actually being kinky gives you a big leg up when working with kinky clients. There’s also a big difference between kink-aware and kink-positive therapists. Being “kink-aware” is a broad statement, and doesn’t necessarily mean someone has extensive knowledge and experience with kink.

She discusses how powerful and rewarding it can be to have clients open up to her about their kinks. After talking to people in sessions, she frequently sees people trying to “fit their square peg into the round hole” of vanilla life. Having practical knowledge of the community, she’s able to direct clients who are interested in kink to educational resources.

To finish off, we answer listener questions about how to get into sex therapy as a profession, how to cultivate better kink spaces for those with disabilities, and what to do if your therapist is not kink-aware.
