This week, we sat down for part one of our two part episode with sleepingirl and cckitten of the Two Hyp Chicks podcast! We talked about many aspects of erotic hypnosis, such as what counts as a trance, how hypnosis relates to control, and sleepingirl’s books on brainwashing and Neurolinguistic programming.

Introduction to Erotic Hypnosis

To start off, we asked sleepingirl about her Radioactive Spider Bite into Kink. She explains that she considers herself a stereotypical hypno-fetishist, as she got into the kink through Disney movies she watched as a child (such as The Jungle Book). She wasn’t aware of what she was feeling at the time, but she later realized that it was arousal. She explains that she was obsessed with hypnosis scenes in cartoons as a kid, and would record sections of Teen Titans and Pokémon when her parents weren’t around. Later on in high school, she realized the hypno community existed, and immediately got involved when she came of age.

Next we asked cc about her Radioactive Spider Bite, which was not actually hypno-kink—it was control and humiliation. When she was in grade school playing cops and robbers with the neighbors, she was put in a “prison” which was actually a trash can, and she became aroused when someone added more trash to the trash can. Humiliation wasn’t something she ventured out to explore at first, but she definitely seeked out control. She jokes that Cary Grant was her first dominant, because she would seek out controlling scenes in old movies.

Cc got into hypnosis through sleepingirl around seven years ago, since it’s sleepingirl’s central kink. Sleepingirl became cc’s owner, and they got into mind control and hypnosis together. At first cc was hesitant to try hypnosis, but the aspects of control involved helped her get into it.

Dick talks about how he deeply enjoys hypno porn, but doesn’t actively do hypno play. What got him into it was episodes of Batman 1966 that involved hypno, and how the hypnotized subjects in that show would be tranced into putting on performances or embarrass themselves for others’ enjoyment. Sleepingirl agrees with this, adding that her favorite part of hypno content is the climax that shows proof of mind control, which is typically when the hypnotist makes the subject do something they wouldn’t normally do.

How to Approach Erotic Hypnosis

We move into discussing how it can be difficult to come into hypnosis as someone who doesn’t have a lot of time, because there’s so much knowledge to learn and absorb when it comes to this fetish. This applies to many kinks and fetishes, but hypnosis specifically involves a lot of research upfront. Sleepingirl agrees that hypnosis definitely has a learning curve, and what makes it difficult is that you can’t learn all there is to know in one book or one class. However, if you’re interested, it’s definitely a worthwhile exploration, and there’s no time limit on how long it takes to learn hypnosis. Sleepingirl has been a hypnotist and subject for over 11 years at this point, and just now feels like she’s getting into her stride.

Lexi talks about recently attending the Charmed hypnosis convention, and how she learned that when you bring up hypnosis to someone, everyone has their own preconceived notions about what it entails, which can get in the way of actually learning hypnosis skills. She says that one of the most valuable lessons she’s learned in her journey so far is that hypnosis is probably not what you think it is, and once you can accept that, you’ll finally be open to learning what it means to you. Lexi used to believe she was unable to be hypnotized because she failed to enter a trace a few times in the past, but once she learned that being a good subject is also a skill to be learned, it made her more open to hypnosis in general. In summary, most people can learn hypnosis if they’re willing to practice and put in the effort.

How Do You Know if You’re in Trance?

Gwen talks about how she was able to be put into a trance by simply pretending she was in a trance until it happened. She would imagine and role play what it would feel like if she were in a trance, which made her more susceptible to being tranced. Cc adds that this was exactly her experience with becoming a hypno-bottom for sleepingirl. Cc struggled with the fact that she’s a submissive who wants to please her dominant, so she wasn’t able to tell the difference between doing what made sleepingirl happy, and what was actually a trance. They worked through this by discussing how it doesn’t really matter how you label the experience—the point is just to have the experience, and it can be analyzed later.

Sleepingirl talks about how most people go into hypnosis and trance with the notion that it’s a distinct state that needs to be reached. You could think of a trance as a container, and there’s an outside and an inside of the container. This can be a useful metaphor, but it’s easy to get caught up in thoughts of “am I in hypnosis, or am I out of hypnosis?” In reality, whether or not you’re in a trance state depends on your perception of the experience. If you perceive yourself to be in trance, then you are in a trance.

Brainwashing and Erotic Hypnosis

Next, we talk about sleepingirl’s Brainwashing Book, which was inspired by her relationship with cc. She talks about how after a particularly intense hypnosis session, cc woke up from her trance and told sleepingirl that she thought she was brainwashed. Cc had previously been apprehensive about the idea of being brainwashed, but the experience made them both realize that they wanted to explore it more. At the time, people in the hypnosis community weren’t talking much about brainwashing in long-term, ethical relationships. They started Two Hyp Chicks around the time they began exploring brainwashing, which led sleepingirl to begin writing her first book.

Neurolinguistic Programming and Erotic Hypnosis

We then move into sleepingirl’s current project—her book on Neurolinguistic programming (NLP) and how it relates to erotic hypnosis. Sleepingirl talks about Richard Bandler, who is widely known as the co-founder of Neurolinguistic programming. Bandler worked for a publishing companies that published books about psychology and therapy, and he ended up editing manuscripts for influential therapists. He started a group that taught people how to do therapy and eventually invited a linguistics professor, John Grinder, to oversee the practice. The Grinder noticed that the group was doing effective therapy, and began to approach their model from a linguistics-focused perspective. Bandler and Grinder ended up writing a book together about how people understand language, which is widely known as the beginning of NLP.

Eventually, the two became interested in Milton Erickson, who is known to be the person who introduced modern hypnosis to the general public. After Bandler and Grinder connected with Erickson, NLP grew from a study of a small group of students to a movement analyzing how to analytically examine how trance works. Sleepingirl talks about how to this day it can be difficult to define what NLP is exactly, because the movement expanded very slowly over time with no clear definition. It involves a lot of jargon and pompous concepts, but it can be a really useful tool for hypnotists and hypno-therapists, so sleepingirl’s goal with the book is to sort of put these concepts into layman’s terms to make the information more accessible.
